Stocking Time

The ideal stocking time is late spring or early summer when the water reaches about 50°F.

Bringing Them Home

Simply place them in a plastic bag and then into a covered box so light will not stress the fish.  Then, introduce the fish to the pool slowly by adding about 10% pool water every 15 minutes.

*Before introducing fish to your pond, quarantine them for 2 weeks in a separate aerated aquarium or container to ensure they are disease and parasite free.

Feeding

Do not feed the fish for the first 3-4 days.  Then, as they settle in, feed them daily.  Also, reduce summer feedings because most fish will supplement their diets with plants and insects.

Water Quality

Most tap water is overflowing with contaminants like chlorine and chloramines.  Treat water before adding fish and then test the water weekly with an easy to use kit.  Add a filter to keep water clear and fish healthy.

Light

Provide shade and cover for the fish with plants, bricks, stones or other material

Air Flow

Fish breathe oxygen, which is dissolved in the water.  You can increase the air levels in your waterscape by incorporating a fountain, bubbler, waterfall or recirculating pump.
