  • Bulbs that have already flowered should have their leaves cut back near the base of the plant especially if they have turned brown.
  • Dead-head all spent blooms from flowers to promote future blooms.
  • Frequently inspect trees, shrubs and vegetables for insect and disease infestation.  Inspection will minimize damage to plants.
  • Start slowing raising your mowing heights.  Mowing too short in summer will put the grass under stress and create a haven for disease and weeds.
  • Maintain your summer spray schedule on fruit trees.
  • Remove annuals with stunted or unusual color; these are usually infected and the disease can spread to nearby healthy plants.
  • Clean hummingbird feeders filled with nectar regularly to ward off mold and bacteria.
  • Prune the current year’s growth of Wisteria to the first five leaves to keep in trim and promote more vigorous flowering.
  • Deadhead roses as soon as blooms fade to encourage new growth.
  • Rake algae from water ponds.
  • Hoe beds and borders regularly to keep them free from weeds.
