Hey Ann

You are asking: can’t an artist also create a journey which is more emotional and more abstract?

My answer is : Of course. I have been blogging about the World Press Photo Multimedia Contest for the past few days. The contest rules clearly state that a story must have a journalistic storyline. Apart from that rule I am very open minded In fact I love to see experimental multimedia.

Thanks Torunn. Direction or drive… ? A good journalistic multimedia piece to me is a story that take you (the audience) somewhere. That said, I love to see multimedia that is innovative in its approach. A set of stills accompanied by a music track just doesn’t do it for me. I think I need more – but that is just my opinion. A good piece is a story that has some kind of impact on me. That impact can either be emotional or intellectual.

Photographers collect material in different ways. I personally like to structure a few things beforehand … others don’t. It is a personal choice. We are different. What works for me doesn’t necessarily work for you Give it shot and get some feedback!
