Jharia in Jharkhand is one of the most important coal mine areas in India and one of largest in Asia. Once a treasure trove of high quality coking coal uncontrollable fires have turned the mines and the sorrounding villages into wastelands.

The story is the first chapter in a long term project about industrial pollution in the Third World.
